This will be our third year hosting our annual fundraiser for Programa Sueños at Bedell Cellars! We could not be more grateful and proud of the support we receive from our North Fork community for the students in San Antonio, Guatemala.
Aside from being the perfect event venue, Bedell Cellars is one of the top sustainable wineries on Long Island. Certified sustainable by Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing, they adhere to a checklist of 200 sustainable farming best practices that have been fine tuned for Long Island’s climate. This has greatly reduced their agricultural inputs, and protects land and water resources for the future. They also compost all of their grape seeds and skins and vine cane prunings each year, spreading them back in the vineyard as natural fertilizer. Such responsible re-use of on-farm nitrogen sources protects Long Island’s fragile groundwater supply.
Be sure to check them out all year long, and join us for our annual fundraiser sponsored by northforkeron Thursday, July 6. Find more information and tickets here: bit.ly/suenosfundraiser2017.

We love this view of the school in San Antonio, Guatemala surrounded by mountains.
As beautiful as this photo is, there is a very real problem impacting the way of life for those that live in the village. A drought has left many without work as agriculture is a leading source of income, and the secluded area makes it difficult for families to seek work elsewhere. The school is in very poor condition, and 230+ students share just a few classrooms. Our next goal is to build a new school to create a safe learning environment for the kids and teachers.
